SEATTLE, WA – Skanska, a leading global construction and development firm, announced today that it is teaming up with Hakimo, a technology company dedicated to modernizing physical security through its artificial intelligence (AI) software, to be among the first to use the company’s AI-powered security monitoring tools at Skanska’s 4.5-mile-long jobsite for the I-405, Brickyard to SR 527 Improvement Project in Bothell, Washington.

“Construction sites – especially ones as large as this one – unfortunately can become targets for theft, vandalism and unauthorized access, especially at night,” said Ryan Clayton, Senior Vice President - General Manager of Skanska’s West Coast civil operation. “Being able to protect our operations using the mix of deterrents that are part of Hakimo’s service has allowed us to make security more proactive than ever before.”

Skanska has deployed Hakimo’s remote guarding capabilities, which include both stationary and mobile camera units, 24/7 monitoring, AI detection, alert raising to Skanska supervisors, threat deterrence through talk-down mechanisms at the jobsite to verbally alert a potential intruder that they are being monitored, and the ability to contact local authorities if the need arises.

“Our team also has access to Hakimo’s portal, so if an alert is raised, one of our supervisors can quickly log on and see exactly what they’re seeing in real time,” added Clayton. “It could be that one of our team members needed to access the site after hours or maybe there’s someone on the jobsite who shouldn’t be, in which case we’ll make that determination together using both technology and humans to detect and respond appropriately.”

The I-405, Brickyard to SR 527 Improvement Project will expand the dual express toll lane (ETL) system from south of the I-405/SR 522 interchange to the I-405/SR 527 interchange. The project includes new lanes, direct access ramps, interchange improvements, infrastructure in support of Sound Transit’s Stride Bus Rapid Transit program, and new fish passage culverts within the project vicinity. Construction began in 2023 and is slated for completion in late-2028.
